The RTS = Music=20 Department has been enjoying a gratifying spring season. The school=92s = Grade 5-8=20 Marching Band was awarded a 2^nd place finish at the May 2 = Loyalty Day=20 Parade performing Harold Bennett=92s composition =93Military = Escort.=94 The band performed in the = Vermont All=20 State Music Festival Parade the following Wednesday with their showpiece = for=20 that event being the selection =93In the Mood,=94 as popularized by the = Glenn Miller=20 Orchestra.

Later in = May, Rutland=20 Town School=92s Chorus, Grade 5 Band, Middle School Band, M Jazz = Ensemble, and T=20 Jazz Ensemble participated in the High Note Music Festival at the Great = Escape=20 Six Flags Amusement Park in Glen=92s Falls, NY. Each ensemble enjoyed 20 = minutes of=20 stage time, performing for accredited adjudicators. All ensembles = achieved a=20 =93Superior=94 rating prompting one of the judges to note that this = achievement by a=20 school was a first in her experience as a High Note adjudicator. Ensembles are graded on a = scale of=20 0-100. A percentile of = 90-100 is=20 needed to achieve a rating of =93Superior.=94 =20 This field trip was sponsored by parents and the Rutland Town=20 Friends of=20 Music.

The Rutland = Town School=20 =93T Jazz Ensemble=94 performed as part of the Burlington Discover Jazz = Festival=92s=20 Jazz on the Marketplace on Upper Church Street.

The = 5^th=20 annual Rutland Town School Friends of Music =93Summer Jazz Camp=94 for = youth=20 entering grades 5-9 will be held at Rutland Town School June 21-25. For more information, please = contact=20 camp director Glendon Ingalls at Rutland Town School (775-0566 ext = 2042).
