ITEMS:
1) Halloween Party Rap Up:
Mike Rowe indicated that the Halloween party went very well. Attendance was good and he said that the only issue was the pumpkin judging contest. We need to organize this better next year. Mike thanked Tim Pockette and especially Jessanne Pockette for all of the work that they put into organizing the party. Jody Hall indicated that he has received many complements regarding the party. Jim Hall suggested that the Commission continue with this party as it seems to get bigger every year as many kids do not get a chance to trick ot treat due to the Rutland City Halloween parade.
2) Basketball:
Mike Rowe said that basketball has started for everyone except Kindergarten through Second Grade. All teams have coaches. Mike is working on getting the final coaches for grades kindergarten through second grade. The gym is very busy with all of the team and the number of games that they all have, along with the middle school teams.
3) Budget:
Jody Hall gave a brief over view of the budget. Jody indicated that there was a $6,000.00 reduction in the overall budget from 2008 to 2009. Jody said that this could not happen again if the Commission wanted to continue to provide the services and extra-curricular activities that it provides to the youth of Rutland Town.
There was a discussion about the life guards and the creation of a pay scale for them so that the Town could compete with the City pay wise and keep the life guards that worked for us in the past. A pay scale will be developed and presented to the Select Board for review.
The Commission went through the budget one line item at a time. In the end the budget was increased a total $7,500.00 with the most of this going into the purchase of a new utility cart needed to maintain the fields at Northwood. This new utility cart would replace the small tractor that is currently being used which costs about $2,000.00 a year for repairs and maintenance.
