RUTLAND = TOWN BOARD=20 OF SCHOOL DIRECTORS MEETING

OPEN:  = Chairman=20 Stacy Chapman opened the meeting at 6:37 pm with the Pledge of=20 Allegiance.

 

PRESENT:  = In=20 attendance were: Board members Marc Brierre, Stacy Chapman, Lyn Gallipo, = Jim=20 Levins and Jim Wright.  Also in attendance were Superintendant = Wendy=20 Savery, Principal Pati Beaumont, Business Mgr Cheryl Scarzello along = with staff=20 members Glendon Ingalls and Marcia Barron and resident.

 

CONSENT = AGENDA:=20   

Director=92s=20 Orders:  = All=20 Directors=92 Orders were signed as presented.

Minutes:  = The=20 minutes of January 19th were adopted as corrected, and the = minutes of=20 January 21st and 25th were adopted as=20 written.

Committee=20 Reports:=20 None

 

PUBLIC = QUESTIONS=20 & COMMENTS: =20  Principal Paolo Zancanaro spoke of Mount St Joseph Academy=92s = enrollment=20 drive.  The average tuition cost is $5,000.  The board spoke = on the=20 Open House held at RTS for students and parents on the area high=20 schools.

 

TEACHERS/STAFF=20 COMMENTS:  = Glendon=20 Ingalls and Marcia Barron spoke on:

=B7       =20 Grades = K-4 are=20 celebrating the 100th Day of school with a Food Drive.  This is in=20 conjunction with the Vermont Lion=92s Club project.  Non-perishable = foods can=20 be brought in to school until February 5th.

=B7       =20   Mrs.=20 Barbagallo=92s 3rd grade Language Arts class is having a Hot = Chocolate=20 sale.  The proceeds will go to making care packages for a = student=92s Father=20 and his troop serving in Afghanistan.

=B7       =20 Mrs. = Fleming=92s=20 Social Studies class have raised $278.05 for World Vision for = Haiti.=20

=B7       =20 Mrs. = Pezetti and=20 Mrs. Fleming=92s classes have raised over $178.00 for Pure Water for = the=20 World.

=B7       =20 RTS=92s = M, T, and F=20 Jazz Ensemble (40 Students) played at the 1st Winter Jazz = Concert in=20 the Rutland High School Theater on January = 28th.

=B7       =20 Nine = students=20 from the Jazz Ensemble and six chorus students will be in attendance at = the=20 Green Mountain District Music Festival.

=B7       =20 The PTO = Family=20 Fun Night was well attended and a great night!

=B7       =20 Vernon = Elementary=20 Tornados will perform a Jump Rope for Heart demonstration Feb = 3rd.=20

RTS = students=20 raised over $6,000 last year with their Jump-a-thon and Hoops for=20 Heart.

=B7       =20 The PTO = will hold=20 a New England Barn Dance and Family Night Celebration on March=20 12th.

=B7       =20 All = State Music=20 Festival will be held on May 6 & 7 at Rutland High School.  = They are=20 looking for housing for 400 students.  Anyone interested is asked = to=20 contact Jen Hart

PRINCIPAL=92S=20 REPORT:  = Pati=20 announced that two RTS students (Brenna 7th gr, Rachael=20 8th gr) have been selected to have their Landscape Paintings = to China=20 displayed through GRASP. 

=B7       =20 Thank = you for=20 service to the students and school went to Tammy Edwards for her years = of=20 dedicated service in the Kitchen and Bart Reczek for his 25+ years of = custodial=20 service!

=B7       =20 Circle=20 - Carol = Bamm,=20 publisher of the Circle, has announced they are under budget for the = 2009 school=20 year.  The annual budget was $2,000 (split by RTS and Select = Board). =20

     =20 Carol is to be congratulated for her hard work on the Circle!  = Thanks also=20 go out to Marie   

     =20 Hyjek for keeping the mailing list up to date (no small = task)!

=B7       =20 Contract - Jim=20 Levins made a motion to accept the amended Long Term Substitute contract = for=20 Jessica Furman.  Jim Wright seconded the motion and it was passed=20 unanimously.

 

SUPERINTENDENT'S=20 REPORT:  = Wendy and=20 Cheryl reviewed the proposed Informational Flier to be sent to residents = on the=20 2010-2011 budget.  The Flyer should be completed by Friday February = 12 and=20 in the mail by the 16th.  The Comparative Data for cost=20 effectiveness will be included as required by the State of=20 Vermont.

*  = 2010=20 Actual Budget Update - Cheryl presented the update to board members to=20 review.

 

CHAIRMAN=92S=20 REPORT: =

=B7       =20 Bus = Route=20 - The = request from=20 a resident to change the bus route has been denied.  The decision = was made=20 by the School, along with Town representatives.

 

MEETINGS:  =20         Tuesday - February = 16th -=20 Regular Meeting at 6:30 pm in Library.

           = ;       =20 Monday - March 1st - Town Meeting at 7:00 pm

 

 

ADJOURNMENT:   The=20 meeting was adjourned at 7:31 pm with a motion by Jim Wright, seconded = by Jim=20 Levins.
