RUTLAND TOWN BOARD OF SCHOOL DIRECTORS MEETING

Regular Meeting       

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

OPEN:  Acting Chairman Lyn Gallipo opened the meeting at 7:08 pm with the Pledge of Allegiance.

PRESENT:  In attendance were: Board members Lyn Gallipo, Jim Levins and Jim Wright.  Also in attendance were Superintendant Wendy Savery, Principal Pati Beaumont, Asst. Principal Larry Sims and four residents.

CONSENT AGENDA:   

Minutes:  The minutes of July 20^th were adopted as written.  The minutes of July 21^st were accepted with the change of date for Mediation (August 31^st not August 11^th).  The minutes of August 5^th will be held until the next meeting.

Director's Orders:  All Directors’ Orders were signed as presented.

Committee Reports: None

TEACHERS/STAFF COMMENTS / PUBLIC QUESTIONS & COMMENTS:  None

ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT: 

• School Preparation - Pati thanked the custodial staff for their work in preparing the building for the new school year.
• Enrollment Figures - Pati reviewed the newest enrollment figures.  Two new students have enrolled, but neither are at the Kindergarten or 5^th grade levels.
• Technology Plan - The Technology Plan has received State approval.  Jim Wright made a motion to adopt the Technology Plan.  Jim Levins seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
• Action Plan - Jim Levins made a motion to adopt the Action Plan as presented.  Jim Wright seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
• Roof Project -  Clerk of the Works - Jeff Colomb will continue as the primary contact as no one has been selected as Clerk of the Works yet.
• Resignations -  A letter of resignation has been received from Patricia Potter for the position of Para Educator.  Jim Levins made a motion to regretfully accept Patricia Potter’s letter of resignation.  Jim Wright seconded the motion and it was passed unanimously.  The Board and Administration want to thank Patty for her years of dedicated service.
• Support Staff -  Jim Wright made a motion to offer Jessica Abbott and Robin Aiken Para Educator positions for the 2009-2010 school year.  Jim Levins seconded the motion and it was passed unanimously.
• Busing -  Larry spoke on the bus routes and how they seem to be changing daily.  A new list will be sent out soon.

PUBLIC QUESTIONS & COMMENTS:  Joe Bizzaro spoke with the board on the importance of having the Athletic Director or a member of the Administration present at the athletic events.  Joe stated that there was no one present at the girls Basketball games last year.  The Board also learned the same was true for the boys games.  Everyone is in agreement on the importance of this issue and the Administration will research and rectify the situation.  Those present were thanked for making the Administration and Board aware of the issue.

   Deb Thomas spoke to the Board and Administration on her difficulty in finding transportation for her child.  After a  lengthy discussion was held, it was decided that  MS. Thomas will work with Administration to try and find an appropriate solution.

CHAIRMAN'S REPORT:  None

EXECUTIVE SESSION:   Jim Levins made a motion to go into Executive Session per 1 VSA, Section

313; personnel.  Jim Wright seconded the motion and it was passed unanimously at 7:54 pm.   Executive Session was declared over at 8:33 pm.

MOTION:  Jim Wright made a motion grant a one year leave of absence as requested.  Jim Levins seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

• Jim Wright made a motion to authorize the Administration to fill the one year position.  Jim Levins seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

MEETING:   Monday - August 31^st - Mediation Session - 5:00 to 7:00 pm

Tuesday - September 1^st - Regular Meeting at 7:00 pm in Library.

OTHER:  Discussion on the starting time (6:30 vs. 7:00) for meetings will be held on Sept. 1st

ADJOURNMENT:   The meeting was duly adjourned at 7:35 pm.
