RUTLAND TOWN SELECTBOARD COMMITTEE MEETING
POLICE COMMITTEE
JUNE 3rd, 2025
The Police Committee of the Rutland Town Selectboard met at 4:30 PM on Tuesday June 3rd, 2025, at the Municipal Town Hall. Present was Selectboard Chair Mary Ashcroft, Selectboard Member Matt Getty, Police Chief Ed Dumas, and Deputy Police Chief Ted Washburn.
Discussed the status of the remaining budget for this fiscal year, using status sheets through the end of May. The overtime line is over budget due to a K9 school program. Also, there was an issue with paying out comp time. It was being paid at an overtime rate instead of straight time. The communication line is over due to the addition of a new radio system. Discussed the payment for the AFIS machine. It needs to be verified this was paid or will be paid out of this fiscal year’s budget.
Discussed the shift planning going forward so there is coverage during more hours of the day, into the evening. Efforts are being made to ensure there is an overlap with officers so one is not working alone.
The new cruiser is expected to be ready soon. There are some issues with other vehicles which are being addressed. The truck is in for repair and may take 4 to 6 weeks to complete.
Chief Dumas reviewed the draft alarm ordinance. Since they are not a 24-hour agency, they don’t need to be a part of it now. This can be changed in the future if needed.
Discussed police responses to major fire incidents.
The money from the Cortina Inn settlement fund needs to have a vote by the Selectboard to carry it over.
The committee voted to enter executive session at 5:18PM to discuss a personnel matter. The committee came out of executive session at 5:38PM.
The was no other business to be discussed.
The meeting adjourned at 5:39 PM.
Respectfully submitted, Bill Sweet
