Highway Committee Minutes 6-1-2022
RUTLAND TOWN SELECTBOARD COMMITTEE MEETING
HIGHWAY COMMITTEE
WEDNESDAY JUNE 1ST, 2022
The Highway Committee of the Rutland Town Selectboard met at 9:00AM on Wednesday June 1st, 2022, at the end of Cheney Hill Lane. Present was Selectboard member Joe Denardo, Acting Road Commission Walt Tripp, Acting Sewer Commissioner Jason Bathalon, Administrative Assistant Bill Sweet, Road Commissioner Candidate David Sears, Tom Fuller and resident Peter Yankowski.
The committee met to discuss an issue of storm water runoff into their driveway at the end of the cull de sac on Cheney Hill Lane.
- The road has been paved 2 times since 1993. The last time the road was paved, the pitch appears to have been changed which is causing more water to run into the driveway at 108 Cheney Hill Lane.
- After some discussion, it was decided the way to address the drainage and fix the problem correctly would be to reclaim the road starting approximately 50 feet south of the beginning of the cull de sac, reclaim the entire cull de sac, and regrade the base.
- The surface could be evaluated prior to paving to ensure it will serve its intended purpose.
- Discussed hiring an engineer to come and evaluate the area and to provide suggestions. There was some concern about the additional time and expense to bring in an engineering firm. It was agreed that between the Highway Department and the paving contractor, the appropriate solution could be found.
- Discussed the timeline to complete the work. It is possible there may be funds available in the budget for the next fiscal year for this work since repaving of East Pittsford Road was canceled. Tom Fuller said it would be several weeks before he could start this work.
- The committee will make the recommendation to the board to have Fuller Sand and Gravel do the work necessary to correct the drainage problem.
- The committee discussed the recent notice provided to us by McKirryher Services, that they will no longer be able to provide winter road maintenance services for the Town. No decision was made.
The meeting adjourned at 10:00 AM.
Respectfully submitted, Bill Sweet
