RUTLAND TOWN SELECT BOARD COMMITTEE MEETING

TRANSFER STATION COMMITTEE

THURSDAY MAY 4^th, 2023

The Transfer Station Committee of the Rutland Town Select Board met at 5:05 PM on Thursday May 4^th, 2023, at the Municipal Town Hall. Present was Select Board Member Kurt Hathaway, Select Board Member Matt Getty, Transfer Station Manager Larry Dell Veneri, Transfer Station Attendant Bill Bauer, and Town Administrator Bill Sweet.

1. The committee reviewed the fiscal year to date budget status.
   1. Overall, it is in good shape. No major overspends are anticipated.
2. Costs for getting rid of recyclables and food scraps continue to increase.
   1. Residents are recycling more and bringing less garbage bags.
   2. The costs of recycling are not being offset by any money coming in from selling the recyclables.
   3. Discussed establishing annual user fees to cover the recycling costs.
3. Discussed a tiered pricing structure for smaller bags or creating a separate card for small garbage bags. The logistics of that make it difficult. Changes will be discussed after the year end budget numbers are determined.
4. Discussed how a restroom could be put in.
   1. Options of a portable restroom, or a storage tank instead of a septic field were reviewed.
   2. No decision was made.
