RUTLAND TOWN SELECT BOARD COMMITTEE MEETING
POLICE COMMITTEE
JULY 16th, 2024
The Police Committee of the Rutland Town Select Board met at 5:00 PM on Tuesday July 16th, 2024, at the Municipal Town Hall. Present was Select Board Chair Mary Ashcroft, Select Board Member Matt Getty, Town Police Chief Ed Dumas, Deputy Chief Ted Washburn, Town 2nd Constable John Paul Faignant, and Mary Nichols from CFAC.
Discussed funding from CFAC for an officer from the Town.
- A copy of the new MOU was provided to committee members.
- There is up to $80,000 in grant funding available.
- Discussed how investigations are handled through CFAC in coordination with State agencies.
- Discussed various financial and scheduling options for the potential officer.
- The committee will recommend to the full board approving hiring an officer to fill this position pending the availability of grant funding to cover the cost.
Discussed a new retirement program put into place in the State retirement system.
- A new group D category was created in 2022.
- This group is specifically for emergency personnel.
- If the Board decides eligible personnel can enroll, approval needs to be given to VMERS by September 30th of 2024.
- This would need to be included in budget calculations for next year. The employer and employees would contribute more.
- This will be brought to the full board.
Discussed the open School Resource Officer position.
The committee entered executive session at 5:38 to discuss a personnel matter.
The committee came out of executive session at 5:56. The meeting adjourned at 5:57 PM.
