Highway Committee Minutes 12-13-2024

RUTLAND TOWN SELECTBOARD COMMITTEE MEETING

HIGHWAY COMMITTEE

FRIDAY DECEMBER 13th, 2024

The Highway Committee of the Rutland Town Selectboard met at 10:00 AM on Friday December 13th, 2024, at the Municipal Town Hall. Selectboard Clerk Joe Denardo, Selectboard Member Kurt Hathaway, Road Commissioner Dave Sears, and Town Administrator Bill Sweet were present.

The committee discussed the on-going issues with the south end sewer.

A-1 Sewer was called down again and pulled 3 more cans out of the line.

The condition of the line cannot be exactly determined since cameras run into obstacles on both ends.

There are 2, 45-degree bends near the manhole on the west side of the road. Ideally these should be removed.

Commissioner Sears will investigate pricing from some excavation contractors and will follow up at the next Board meeting.

Howard Burgess has given Robert Clark the information he was looking for regarding sewer infrastructure in the area of the proposed relocation of Simson Ave.

Discussed an issue with a sign put up by a resident which has caused some delivery confusion for a neighbor who shares the driveway, but the house is not visible from the road.  After extensive discussion, suggestions for the house with a delivery issue to install a sign on top of their mailbox will be given to them.

Discussed the traffic study for the entrance to the Green Mountain Plaza. A meeting with a rep from VTrans is needed to review it and determine if reconfiguring the intersection is warranted.

Discussed selling the grindings from past paving projects. Commissioner Sears has created a request form which will be put on the website. This will also include details on availability, cost and delivery.

Discussed the purchase of an excavator. There is a meeting with the Town auditor coming up soon. After this meeting, the balance of carryover should be known. This will guide the decision. A purchase using a cooperative purchasing agreement is available.

Discussed the replacement of the salt shed. A different location in the park would be better.  Commissioner Sears will look into different options and costs and report back.

The meeting adjourned at 11:39 AM.
