Highway Committee Minutes 5-12-2025

RUTLAND TOWN SELECTBOARD COMMITTEE MEETING

HIGHWAY COMMITTEE

MAY 12th, 2025

The Highway Committee of the Rutland Town Selectboard met at 11:00 AM on Monday May 12th, 2025, at the Municipal Town Hall. Present was Selectboard Clerk Joe Denardo, Selectboard Member Kurt Hathaway, and Town Road Commissioner Dave Sears.

Discussed a request for a new water connection on US Route 7 South on the corner of Cold River Road. There are other businesses who are, and some who may be, interested in connecting to municipal water were a line installed. A major benefit would be the addition of fire hydrants on the East side of Route 7. The committee is in favor of looking at this further to determine scope and cost.

Discussed the sewer line issue on 7 South. Our engineer is putting together a permit package to send to the state. A bid package is also being created. It should be ready very soon.  Modification to the line running from the Dental office complex may be needed as part of this project.

Discussed the Simons Avenue intersection redesign project. The biggest obstacle is funding. The State will be asked about contributing since they are largely in favor of creating T style intersections.

Discussed reconfiguring the exit of the Green Mountain Plaza by adding a 3rd turn lane. The traffic study did not say it was necessary, but the committee would like to see it done. Coordination with VTrans is required since a new traffic light needs to be added. The committee would like to follow up with the Regional Planning Commission to talk about how they arrived at the result.

Discussed the process for bidding the planned Stratton Road culvert project.

The meeting adjourned at 12:01 PM.

Respectfully submitted, Bill Sweet
