RUTLAND TOWN SELECTBOARD COMMITTEE MEETING

HIGHWAY COMMITTEE

JULY 8th, 2025

The Highway Committee of the Rutland Town Selectboard met at 9:00 AM on Tuesday July 8th, 2025, at the Municipal Town Hall. Present was Selectboard Clerk Joe Denardo, Selectboard Member Kurt Hathaway Town Road Commissioner Dave Sears, Town Administrator Bill Sweet, and Steffanie Bourque from the Regional Planning Commission.

Discussed the Route 7 North shared use path project. Reviewed proposals to reconfigure the travels lanes from the city / town line to Post Road from the engineer hired for the sidewalk project. The proposal extends the new lane configuration from the city line to the Post Road intersection, adding a bike lane on the west side of the road. It will allow bikes traveling south to transition to the existing bike lane from our shared use path without any difficulty. The committee was in favor of this new configuration.

Discussed adding a large diesel fuel tank near the highway garage. This could allow all town vehicles needing diesel to fill up there. Initially a 500-gallon tank was planned but a 1000-gallon tank was determined to be more appropriate. After discussion, Commissioner Sears will talk with vendors who would supply the fuel to see if they have options for installation of infrastructure available.

Reviewed the draft update to the Streets and Sidewalks Ordinance. A new section for excavation was added. Reviewed amounts and requirements in the fees and deposits section. Some updates have been made and the new draft will be forwarded to our town attorney for review.

The grant award for the Stratton Road culvert is still pending.

The mower should be back from Mendon soon and another round of roadside mowing will be done again.

The meeting adjourned at 10:24 AM.

Respectfully submitted, Bill Sweet
