RUTLAND TOWN SELECTBOARD BUILDING COMMITTEE MEETING
MARCH 27th, 2026
The Building Committee of the Rutland Town Selectboard met at 10:20 AM on Friday, March 27th, 2026, at the Municipal Town Hall. Present were Selectboard Member Joe Denardo, Selectboard Member Kurt Hathaway, Town Administrator Bill Sweet, and Dave Charnock.
Discussed the initiative to restore or replace the war memorial at Town Hall
- Dave Charnock has led the committee to work on this. He has reached out to a variety of vendors for refurbishing, restoring or replacing it. Also, various landscaping companies. Follow up and costs have been difficult to get. It could be because the project is relatively small.
- Examples from around the state were discussed, Mr. Charnock has gone around to look at them and get ideas.
- The current one is fading, and some cracking has been noted although they do not seem to be substantially affecting the integrity of it.
- Discussed adding a sidewalk for the memorial, adding a plaque to the face of it and having a virtual wall online where names can be added without having to modify the memorial.
- The memorial was placed in 1954.
- Discussed removing the memorial, pouring a new base to raise the level up so it is level with the sidewalk entrance to the building. The driveway needs to be repaved, and this was going to include the sidewalk but a concrete sidewalk to replace it was favored and a loop around the memorial could be added which it is raised up. The landscaping could be changed to eliminate the wall and grade the lawn out from the sidewalk.
Opened and reviewed the bids received for mowing of various Town properties
- Thirteen bids were received.
- There was not a clear bid which was the best.
- A breakdown will be created to be able to equally compare them.
Reviewed the 5-year plan
- The renovations for downstairs, repaving the driveway, and the war memorial are the major items on the list.
The meeting adjourned at 12:03 PM.
Respectfully submitted, Bill Sweet
