RUTLAND TOWN SELECTBOARD / PLANNING COMMISSION COMMITTEE MEETING
ENERGY COMMITTEE
TUESDAY JANUARY 7th, 2023
The Energy Committee of the Rutland Town Selectboard and Planning Commission met at 9:00 AM on Tuesday February 7th, 2023, at the Municipal Town Hall. Present was Selectboard Member Mary Ashcroft, Planning Commission Chair Barbara Pulling, Planning Commission Member Sherman Hunter, Planning Commission Member Norm Cohen, and Town Administrator Bill Sweet.
- Discussion the results from the recent Town Energy Survey.
- 62 responses were received, and a summary of the answers was reviewed.
- Discussed options the Town has to increase energy efficiency including electric vehicles.
- Sidewalks and bike lanes were popular items.
- The survey results will be used as a guide but there is no mandate from it.
- Discussed options to add solar in Town. Past plans to add a field on the closed landfill did not work out. Adding arrays to roofs on Town buildings could be a good option. After some discussion, we will work with GMP on feasibility.
- Discussed ways to have displays at the Town Wide Celebration covering different energy topics.
- The survey results will be published in the future.
- There will be several ways information will be disseminated to the Town in the future.
- Discussed the Municipal Energy Resilience Program.
- This is a new program being administered by VT BGS.
- Preliminary information has been provided to the RRPC from the Town.
- The program has $45M in total funds with a $500k limit.
- To be eligible, buildings must be ADA compliant, and have Wi-Fi available.
- There are funds available for public outreach, which the committee wants to apply for.
The meeting adjourned at 10:31 AM.
Respectfully submitted, Bill Sweet
