RUTLAND TOWN SELECTBOARD COMMITTEE MEETING
FIRE COMMITTEE
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14th, 2024
The Fire Committee of the Rutland Town Selectboard met at 4:00 PM on Thursday November 14th, 2024, at the Municipal Town Hall. Selectboard Chair Mary Ashcroft, Selectboard Member Sharon Russell, Town Fire Chief Chris Clark, Town Assistant Fire Chief Mike Carlson, and Town Assistant Fire Chief Larry Dell Veneri were present
The committee discussed budget planning for the next fiscal year.
- Reviewed recommended changes made by the Chief officers.
- Building maintenance, electricity, and heating fuel for the new Public Safety Building were moved into the general budget going forward.
- The proposed budget total is $256,905. It is an increase of 4%.
The committee discussed the proposed additional new signs for the front of the public safety building.
- The cost from Awesome Graphics is approximately $6000.
- This is for the cost of the signs. There is one for each truck, the FD seal and the Town seal.
- A sign directing people to the main entrance may be needed too.
- There is not an available funding source currently.
- VMS will be asked if they can install the signs if we purchase them.
- Discussed lowering the retainage for the general contractor due to the overall completion of the project. No decision was made. This will be discussed at the Board meeting.
The committee discussed the effort to raise funds from town businesses to purchase a cascade system.
- Some donations have been received, but the need has not yet been met.
Discussed a dedication of the new building. No decision was made.
Discussed the Sutton Fund.
- These were funds given to the Fire Department by the Sutton family, for specific uses only.
- There is a permanent fund and a checking account.
- Discussed exploring options for investing the principal to accrue more interest, which can be put in the checking account.
- The committee is in favor of this.
