RUTLAND TOWN SELECTBOARD COMMITTEE MEETING
HIGHWAY COMMITTEE
WEDNESDAY AUGUST 29th, 2022
The Highway Committee of the Rutland Town Selectboard met at 9:00 AM on Wednesday August 29th, 2022, at the Municipal Town Hall. Present was Selectboard Member Joe Denardo, Road Commissioner Dave Sears, and Town Administrator Bill Sweet.
- The Committee reviewed the draft winter road maintenance prepared by Commissioner Sears.
- This draft is updated to reflect the discussions from previous meetings, including dates, reimbursement amounts, and insurance coverage amount.
- The committee will recommend to the full Board to use this contract.
- Discussed what should be done with the waste oil burner recently removed from the Town Highway garage.
- The new boiler is installed, and the old system is completely removed.
- A full inventory of old parts is being compiled.
- There is no process to sell town assets.
- After some discussion, we sill start by advertising the boiler and 2 waste oil tanks for $2000.
- Discussed the progress on finding a new employee for Walt’s position.
- The last person with a pending application will be interviewed this afternoon.
- Commissioner Sears expects to be able to make a recommendation to the Board at the Tuesday meeting.
- A request was made to install a sign prohibiting the use of engine brakes on the section of Route 4 in the area of Home Depot. After some discussion, this is a state road and we do not have the jurisdiction to regulate this road.
- There are 2 ordinances the committee needs to review, Road Name and Road Location and the Streets and Sidewalk Ordinance. This is on the committee agenda.
- Discussed the process for holding deposit checks for permits. This will be brought up with our auditors to discuss best practices.
- Commissioner Sears is working on plans to complete the Shared Use Path using Town labor in order to cut down the expected cost.
- Discussed some culverts which need to be inspected. They will be reviewed to sese if maintenance is needed.
The meeting adjourned at 9:45 AM.
