New Public Safety Building Committee Minutes 8-9-2021
RUTLAND TOWN SELECT BOARD COMMITTEE MEETING
NEW PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING COMMITTEE
MONDAY AUGUST 9TH, 2021
The New Public Safety Building Committee of the Rutland Town Select Board met at 4:05 PM on Monday August 9th at the Rutland Town Municipal Town Hall. Present was Board Chair Mary Ashcroft, Board Clerk Joe Denardo, Board Member Don Chioffi, Board Member Sharon Russell, Town Fire Chief Chris Clark, Town Police Chief Ed Dumas, Town Assistant Fire Chief Larry Dellveneri, Town Assistant Fire Chief Mike Carlson, Town Deputy Police Chief Ted Washburn, and Town Administrative Assistant Bill Sweet.
- Discussed topics from the last meeting.
- The exact property bounds are not known, discussed having a survey done.
- An adjacent landowner has offered a portion of their parcel to the town to help with our building plans. In exchange, they asked for the 50 foot right of way to the north of our parcel to be established as a town road. This may be a benefit to the new building. A written conveyance or agreement will need to be done and agreed upon by all parties.
- A concept of the building was drawn and discussed. The Fire Department area is 100’ x 90’ with 5 garage doors. There is a 60’ x 10’ hallway between the fire and police side. The Police Department area is 60’ x 60’ with 3 garage doors.
- Some floor plan layouts were discussed.
- Discussed hiring an architect to help design the building versus a design build.
- Discussed the water supply issue, water storage, well pump, sprinkler needs and a fire pump.
- Exact parking needs are not known but this is important to factor in.
- Due to the lack of sufficient water supply and size of the area to build, some committee members feel that a building which would serve the town for 50 years may not fit on this 1.3-acre parcel.
- The next action items are getting estimates on the survey, deciding on whether an architect should be hired or if a design build is appropriate, how much square footage is needed, water needs, parking and if this parcel is the right place to build the new building.
- A date for the next meeting was not set.
The meeting adjourned at 5:10 PM.
Respectfully submitted, Bill Sweet
