RUTLAND TOWN SELECTBOARD COMMITTEE MEETING

POLICE COMMITTEE

NOVEMBER 12th, 2024

The Police Committee of the Rutland Town Selectboard met at 4:00 PM on Tuesday November 12th, 2024, at the Municipal Town Hall. Present was Selectboard Chair Mary Ashcroft, Selectboard Member Matt Getty, Police Chief Ed Dumas and Deputy Police Chief Ted Washburn.

The Committee entered executive session to discuss a candidate for the School Resource Officer position. Upon leaving executive session, the committee will recommend to the full Board increasing the salary for the SRO position by $4300. The candidate is a level 3 officer and will not need town health insurance.

The committee discussed budget planning for the next fiscal year.

  • There was a review of expenses to budget for the current fiscal year.
  • Discussed the process for how directed patrols and special details are paid.
  • There is an additional mandated payroll expense for K9 officers.
  • Based on current trends, $10,000 would be appropriate for the training budget
  • Benefit costs need to be calculated.

The committee discussed the purchases of the finger printing machine.

  • The lead time from order to delivery is not known. It is done through a specified State process.
  • Various sources for funding were discussed.
  • No decision was made.

A follow-up meeting will be planned for November 18th at 4PM.

The meeting adjourned at 4:56PM.
