RUTLAND TOWN SELECTBOARD COMMITTEE MEETING
POLICE COMMITTEE
NOVEMBER 25th, 2024
The Police Committee of the Rutland Town Selectboard met at 4:00 PM on Monday November 25th, 2024, at the Municipal Town Hall. Present was Selectboard Chair Mary Ashcroft, Selectboard Member Matt Getty, Police Chief Ed Dumas and Deputy Police Chief Ted Washburn.
The committee reviewed the draft budget.
- Included the cost for the childcare contribution.
- Discussed a grant funded reimbursement for our Town K9 officer to work with the State on sex offender registry compliance. The rate would be $65 per hour for 10 hours a week. The annual total is $33,800.
- Discussed the SRO position. The rate would be $38.55 per hour with all the associated costs included. This is for a 5-day, 8 hour per day work week for 186 days school is in session. The committee discussed what costs should be covered in the total reimbursement request sent to the school.
- Discussed how the Cortina funds have been used to offset budget costs. The exact process and balances were not immediately available.
The committee discussed a potential issue with the handguns currently in use.
- There have been instances in other jurisdictions where the handguns have discharged while in the holster.
- Discussed options for replacing them.
- A proposal will be given to the Board when ready.
Discussed a MOU for the duties of the SRO which will be assigned to the town school. It outlines the duties and responsibilities of the officer. This has been in place since of 2022.
The meeting adjourned at 5:30PM.
