RUTLAND TOWN SELECT BOARD COMMITTEE MEETING

PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING COMMITTEE

TUESDAY APRIL 25th, 2023

The Public Safety Building Committee of the Rutland Town Select Board met at 5:00 PM on Tuesday April 25th, 2023, at the Municipal Town Hall. Present was Select Board Chair Mary Ashcroft, Select Board Clerk Joe Denardo, Select Board Member Sharon Russell, Select Board Member Kurt Hathaway, Select Board Member Matt Getty, Town Fire Chief Chris Clark, Town Assistant Fire Chief Larry Dell Veneri, Town Assistant Fire Chief Mike Carlson, Town Police Chief Ed Dumas, Town Deputy Police Chief Ted Washburn, Town Administrator Bill Sweet, and Ed Clark from NBF Architects.

  1. The revised budget numbers were shared with attendees.
    1. The project cost is up to $5,502,000.
    2. Several sources of funding have been identified and applied to the balance.
    3. The amount still needing to be funded is approximately $2,500,000.
    4. We have approximately $2,900,000 in dedicated or anticipated funds now.
  2. A ballot is being mailed to all registered town voters.
  3. The Circle articles about the building has different numbers than the ones from this meeting but were accurate when it was written.
  4. There is an open house on the 29th at McKinley Station for the public to come and see it.
  5. The architect provided updated drawings of the building and gave an overview of the project.
  6. Changes are being made to reduce the construction costs.
  7. Discussed parking, water supply and layout of the building.
  8. There has been some feedback from people not realizing the Police are part of this facility as well.
  9. Discussed postponing the project in hopes of a lower project cost. Everyone agreed costs are not expected to reduce any time soon.
  10. A frequently asked question sheet will be created.
