RUTLAND TOWN SELECTBOARD COMMITTEE MEETING

RECREATION COMMITTEE

TUESDAY, JULY 5th, 2022

The Recreation Committee of the Rutland Town Selectboard met at 5:00 PM on Tuesday July 5th, 2022, at the Rutland Town Municipal Town Hall. Present was Selectboard Member Sharon Russell, Selectboard Member Mary Ashcroft, Recreation Director Mike Rowe, and Town Administrator Bill Sweet. There was a conference call line with a publicly accessible phone number in use.

  • Reviewed the current capital improvement plan.
    1. The plan is on track for completing tasks as project.
    2. Removing the old poles for the lights at Dewey Field is one of the only unfinished tasks. A vendor to help do this is being researched.
  • The original garage door at Dewey Field has been replaced with a new one.
  • The 4’ tall fencing at Dewey has all been replaced.
  • Discussed replacing the wood ships at the Northwood Park playground. They are due to be replaced and we will be using a new rubber c hip which will last much longer.
  • Discussed replacing the zero-turn mower.
    1. Cost proposals from United Ag and Turf were provided.
    2. This is the mower that gets used the most.
    3. We were offered $3800 for a trade in value. A new one is quoted at $13,789.
    4. There is sufficient money in the Recreation depreciation account to cover the cost.
    5. Trading in the mower is the preferred method to get rid of the old one.
    6. Discussed using an older walk behind mower as a trade in, since it is not used much anymore and using the older zero-turn at Dewey Field. Discussed the uses of the different pieces of equipment and how it has evolved over the years.
    7. The Highway Department has helped with regular maintenance on the machines annually.
    8. The committee will recommend purchasing the new machine and trading in the walk behind.

The meeting adjourned at 5:23 PM.

Respectfully submitted, Bill Sweet
