Transfer Station Committee Minutes 8-1-2023
RUTLAND TOWN SELECT BOARD COMMITTEE MEETING
TRANSFER STATION COMMITTEE
TUESDAY AUGUST 1st, 2023
The Transfer Station Committee of the Rutland Town Select Board met at 4:30 PM on Tuesday August 1st, 2023, at the Municipal Town Hall. Present was Select Board Member Kurt Hathaway, Select Board Member Matt Getty, Transfer Station Manager Larry Dell Veneri, and Town Administrator Bill Sweet.
- The committee reviewed the budget status and current costs to the transfer station.
- Transport costs have gone up recently. This applies to trash, recycling, and food scraps.
- The amount in the current budget will likely not cover the costs due to increaseds not anticipated last year.
- We do not charge a user fee or for recycling. The only charge is for garbage and construction debris.
- There will be some maintenance on the building this year, including painting. A solution for a restroom has not been found yet.
- Discussed what other towns do including providing 2 punch cards, curbside pickup included town wide, or a higher per garbage bag cost to cover expenses.
- Currently, the general budget covers any additional cost.
- The committee will discuss options again when budget planning begins based on costs at that time.
- Legislation recently passed which should reduce costs related to hazardous waste disposal.
The meeting adjourned at 4:58 PM.
Respectfully submitted, Bill Sweet
