RUTLAND TOWN SELECTBOARD COMMITTEE MEETING
POLICE COMMITTEE
APRIL 29th, 2025
The Police Committee of the Rutland Town Selectboard met at 5:00 PM on Tuesday April 29th, 2025, at the Municipal Town Hall. Present was Selectboard Chair Mary Ashcroft, Selectboard Member Matt Getty, Police Chief Ed Dumas, Deputy Police Chief Ted Washburn, and town Emergency Management Director Marty Wasserman.
Discussed emergency management planning at the Town school
- Town Emergency Management Director Marty Wasserman has gone to the school to speak with the principal and the school board to discuss the use of the building in emergency situations. There has been little progress made.
- Discussed emergency responses in different scenarios.
- The school has developed their own plan but has declined to share it.
- Discussed possible roles and responsibilities but there has not been direct communication with them about it, besides the Police in an active shooter scenario.
Discussed the purchase of new firearms
- The initial quote discussed at the last Board meeting will not be the best option. The lead time is 6 months, and the optic is not preferred. There is a different option, which does have a higher cost.
- The additional cost is approximately $2000 more at $7231. Blackdog is still the lowest cost.
- The committee will recommend the new option from Blackdog to the full Board.
- Reviewed the language for the bill of sale of our existing firearms to the shop.
Reviewed the contract for a new copier for the Police Department.
- This is a 60-month contract at $63.42 a month.
- This is from Symquest who supplies machines for other town departments.
- The cost was not included in the budget for fiscal year 26.
- The committee will recommend to the full board approving the contract.
Reviewed the contract for the tasers with Axim
- The new agreement is $39503.62 total for 5 years.
- Reviewed details in the agreement.
- The committee will recommend this agreement to the full board.
Discussed the agreement with Motorola (Watchguard) for the body camera system
- A combined storage invoice was received this year for body camera and cruiser video.
- The total budget for this year should not be overspent.
The meeting adjourned at 5:55 PM.
Respectfully submitted, Bill Sweet
