RUTLAND TOWN SELECT BOARD COMMITTEE MEETING
PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING COMMITTEE
TUESDAY MAY 30th, 2023
The Public Safety Building Committee of the Rutland Town Select Board met at 4:00 PM on Tuesday May 30th, 2023, at the Municipal Town Hall. Present was Select Board Chair Mary Ashcroft, Select Board Clerk Joe Denardo, Select Board Member Sharon Russell, Select Board Member Kurt Hathaway, Town Fire Chief Chris Clark, Town Assistant Fire Chief Larry Dell Veneri, Town Police Chief Ed Dumas, Town Deputy Police Chief Ted Washburn, Town Administrator Bill Sweet, and representatives from NBF Architects and VMS Construction.

- Anticipated timeline of the project.
- What documents need to be reviewed and approved for signatures.
- Timing of when to borrow the additional funds needed for the project.
- How regular reporting to the Board will be handled.
- Anticipated timeline of the project.
- There should be an additional review of the project to identify and value engineering items where money can be saved. Once this is done, contracts can be drawn up for approval. A standard AIA contract will be used.
- VMS Construction needs to contact each of the subcontractors to make sure each are available when they are needed.
- The steel building vendor is a key component to the project. Their timeline for fabrication and delivery will be determined. This needs to be coordinated with the concrete contractor.
- Foundation and grading are the priority. Slabs could be poured once the building is enclosed and weather tight. This will likely be in the winter.
- All agreed signing the contract is an important first step. Funding timing will be later.
- Discussed starting April 1st of 2024. This would have a negative impact on the cost.
- Reporting to the Board.
- There will be weekly job meetings, which the Town Clerk of the Works JP Faignant will attend. He will then report back to the Board regularly.
- In general terms, the project is expected to take 48 weeks to complete.
- The Municipal Impact Questionnaire for 165 Route 7 South was presented. There are no issues with providing town services. Selectman Denardo moved to approve and to authorize the Chair to sign. Selectman Hathaway seconded the motion. The motion passed 5 – 0.
The meeting adjourned at 4:34 PM.
